Keyboard Function Keys Details 





Extra function keys are given in many keyboards. Laptop has the ability to enable and disable function keys. For this, the FN  button is givenseparately, which is pressed once again to enable and disable it when pressed. For more information, you can understand the full details on the company's keyboard on their website.  


Some shotscats for using the Function Keys are given below  

F1

  • This button is used to open the help of any application.
  • Also use F1 with Window Key to go to the Help Center window's window.
  • To open the Task Pane.
  • To go to CMOS.

F2

  •  Highlighted    file folder in Windows or to rename the icon.
  • Microsoft Word uses Alt + Ctrl + F2  to open a file  .
  • To see the print preview of the file's file via Ctrl + F2.
  • To go to CMOS setup.


F3
  • To open Search features in windows.
  • To rewrite the last command in Ms Dos.
  • To convert from upper to lower case in MsWord and write the first letter of the line in capital letter
  • Using Shift + F3. 
  • To open the advance find window in Microsoft Outlook by Window + F3. 
  • To open Mission Control in Apple Computer's Mac OS X  

F4 

  • To open the Find window. 
  • To open the address bar in Explorer and Internet Explorer. 
  • Alt + F4 closes the currently active program window in Microsoft Windows.
  • Ctrl + F4 closes the open window within the current active window in Microsoft Windows.

F5

  • In all modern Internet browsers, press F5 to reload an open page or document in the window.
  •  In Microsoft Word, open the find, replace, and go to open.
  • A slide show starts in PowerPoint.

F6

  • To move the cursor to the address bar in Internet Explorer, Mozila FireFox, and most other Internet browsers.
  • Ctrl + Shift + F6 opens a new document in Microsoft Word.
  • To reduce volume in the laptop (on some laptops). 

F7
  • Typically Microsoft Word, Outlook, is used for documenting grammar in documents in Microsoft's programs
  • Shift + F7 is used to open thesaurus check on the highlighted word.
  • To turn on Carat Browsing in Mozilla Firefox
  • To increase the volume in the laptop (on some laptops). 

F8

  • Using F8 to enter the Windows Startup menu is usually used to go into Windows Safe Mode.
  • Used for access to the Windows Recovery system, but it may require a Windows Installation CD
  • Displays a thumbnail image for all workspaces in Mac os


F9

  • To Refresh the Document in Microsoft Word
  • Microsoft Outlook is for sending and receiving e-mails.
  • Opens the Measurements toolbar in Quark 5.0.
  • To reduce the brightness of the laptop screen (on some laptops).   
  • Mac OS 10.3 or later, displays a thumbnail for a window in the same workspace. 
    Apple Computer opens Mission Control at the same time in Mac OS X, using Fn key and F9 for it. 

F10

  • Microsoft activates the open application in the menu bar in Windows.
  • Right-click on Shift + F10 highlighted icon, file, or Internet link.
  • To access hidden recovery partition in HP and Sony computers. 
    To go to CMOS setup. 
    To increase the brightness of the laptop screen (on some laptops)  
    Mac OS 10.3 or later, shows the open windows of all active programs.


  • F11
  • To exit full screen mode in all modern Internet browsers.
  • Control + F11 to access hidden recovery partition on many Dell computers
  • To access hidden recovery partition on eMachines, Gateway, and Lenovo computers.
  • In Mac OS 10.4, to hide or show all active applications.

  • F12

  • Save as an open document in Microsoft Word
  • Control + opens a document in Word of F12.
  • Saves the Microsoft Word document like Shift + F12 (Ctrl + s).
  • Ctrl + Shift + F12 to print a document in Microsoft Word.
  • To preview a page in the Microsoft Expression Web.
  • Debug Tool to open Debug Tool in Firebug or Browser.
  • An Apple Hides the Dashboard in Mac OS 10.4.
  • Computer stratup uses the f12 key to boot the computer from one of the bootable Device lists. To select a different device to boot from (hard drive, CD or DVD drive, floppy drive, USB drive, network).
